Career

Schmid made his international debut at the Four Hills Tournament in 1962/63 . After he skipped the jumping in Oberstdorf and also did not reach the top 30 in the other competitions, he finished his first tour in 47th place in the overall ranking. At the Swiss Championships in Einsiedeln in 1963 , he won his first national title in individual.

With the Four Hills Tournament 1963/64 he denied his most successful tour. At the opening competition he achieved his best individual tour result in his career with 18th place in Oberstdorf. He did not start in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . In Innsbruck and Bischofshofen he ended up behind the top 50. In the overall standings Schmid was 38th with 711.4 points.

At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1964 , Schmid jumped from the normal hill in 25th place. From the large hill he reached the 46th place after jumps on 78, 78.5 and 64 meters.

In the following Four Hills Tournament in 1964/65 Schmid only competed in jumping on the Schattenbergschanze in Oberstdorf. Although he only reached 57th place there, he landed on 43rd place overall. Even in the following three years he did not manage to jump to the top positions. Only at the national level did he win the gold medal in Langenbruck in 1966 and in Einsiedeln in 1967. In 1968 he ended his active ski jumping career.

Heribert Schmid's cousin Hans was also active as a ski jumper.
