Herbert Schmidt (historian)

Herbert Schmidt (* 1928 in Leipzig ; † 2019 ) was a trained businessman , goldsmith and historian with a focus on Düsseldorf during the Nazi era .

Life

Schmidt had lived in Düsseldorf since 1953 and, as a trained businessman and goldsmith, ran a jewelry store there until the early 1980s . In 1983 he enrolled as a guest auditor and in 1985 as a student at the Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf for history and philosophy and passed his master's degree. In 1997 he received his doctorate on the subject of The National Socialist Special Courts in Düsseldorf .
