Herbert Sczepan

Herbert Sczepan (born January 2, 1927 in Herne ; † November 15, 2004 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) was a Baptist pastor , evangelist and long-time leader of the home mission (from 2006: Mission) of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches and thus a member the federal management of his free church .

Life

Having grown up during the Nazi era , Sczepan dealt with the fascist worldview at an early age . He was baptized in a Baptist church . Sczepan originally wanted to pursue a civil service career in the postal service , but then decided to become a pastor.

From 1952 to 1955 Herbert Sczepan studied theology at the Theological Seminary in Hamburg-Horn . The training was followed by community services in Pinneberg , Duisburg and Lübeck . From 1975 to 1991 Sczepan was head of the Evangelical Free Church Home Mission based in Bad Homburg. His successor in office was Wilfried Bohlen .

In addition to his pastoral church work, Sczepan worked primarily as an evangelistic publisher and preached in mission tents and congress halls to up to thousands of listeners. An obituary says: “He had a pronounced evangelistic talent and found the right language for his generation” ( DIE GEMEINDE magazine, November 2004). During his service as head of the home mission, over 30 new Evangelical Free Churches were created.

On November 15, 2004, Herbert Sczepan died of severe cancer.
