Herbert Städtke

Herbert Städtke (born March 17, 1931 in Magdeburg ; † January 11, 2008 ) was a German Rear Admiral in the People's Navy and long-time commander of the Coastal Border Brigade .

Life

Städtke, son of a locksmith, also learned this profession from 1947 to 1950 after finishing school. From 1950 to 1952 he studied at the workers and farmers faculty , 1952/53 at the University of Rostock . On November 1, 1953, he joined the armed organs of the GDR with the See People's Police and began training at the Naval Officer Training Institute in Stralsund . In 1956 he became a member of the SED . From 1956 to 1957 he was ship commander in the 7th Flotilla and from 1958 to 1959 in the 6th Coastal Border Brigade. The border brigade determined his subsequent career. He initially served as a staff officer from 1959 to 1962. In 1962 he was commander of a command post. From 1963 to 1966 he studied at the military academy of the NVA Friedrich Engels in Dresden.

After his return to the 6th Coastal Border Brigade, he was head of an operational subdivision of the staff. From 1967 to 1979 he was deputy commander and chief of staff of the border brigade and on December 1, 1979, he succeeded Rear Admiral Heinrich Jordt as its commander. On March 1, 1984, the 28th anniversary of the founding of the NVA , Städtke was appointed Rear Admiral. After the Border Brigade Coast extracted and on 1 April 1990 from the holdings of the People's Navy chief of the border troops had been assumed it was May 2, 1990 by decision of the Ministers of the GDR in the stock of the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR incorporated. On September 30, 1990, Städtke was released into retirement. He last lived in Rostock .
