Herbert Stößlein

Herbert Stößlein (also: Stösslein ; born June 18, 1909 in Innsbruck ; † March 25, 1990 ) was a German party functionary of the GDR block party NDPD and a journalist .

Life

Stößlein, son of a bank clerk, studied mechanical engineering and electrical engineering at the Technical University of Munich from 1928 to 1932 after graduating from high school . He completed his studies with a degree in engineering . He later worked as a government building officer in Kolberg and Enns . In 1937 Stößlein joined the NSDAP . From 1939 he did military service in the Wehrmacht . In 1943, he came at Stalingrad as a Major of the 44th Infantry Division in Soviet captivity .

Stößlein was a founding member of the National Committee “Free Germany” and the Association of German Officers . He was one of the co-signers of the founding documents and the “Appeal to the German Generals and Officers! An Volk und Wehrmacht! ”Of September 12, 1943. Stößlein was later also a member of the editorial committee of the station“ Free Germany ” .

In 1950 Stößlein returned to Germany. He joined the NDPD and was at times a full-time employee of the party executive. From 1953 to 1982 he was deputy editor-in-chief of the NDPD central organ National-Zeitung . From 1956 to 1972 he was also deputy chairman of the Association of the German Press and the Association of Journalists of the GDR .

From 1958 to 1971 he was a member of the board of the working group of former officers of the GDR as well as the presidium of the League for the United Nations in the GDR .
