Herbert Theis (born April 15, 1906 in Rixdorf near Berlin , † February 15, 1972 in Berlin) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Theis did a commercial apprenticeship in the chemical industry and industrial clerk . From 1929 he was a member of the SPD, after the " seizure of power " he was a member of the illegal International Socialist Combat League . In 1938 he was sentenced to five years in prison by the People's Court for “preparation for high treason ” , which he had to serve in the Brandenburg prison and in the Emsland camp .

After the Second World War , Theis was active again in the SPD. From 1946 to 1971 he was a member of the city ​​council of Greater Berlin and the Berlin House of Representatives . He was chairman of the SPD Neukölln for twenty years until 1967 . In 1971 Theis was given the honor of city ​​elder of Berlin . His grave in the forest cemetery Zehlendorf is designated as an honor grave of the city of Berlin .
