Herbert Wemelka

Herbert Wemelka (* 10. February 1928 in Wicklitz , North Bohemia ; † 11. August 2009 in Hainburg ) was a German politician of the CDU . He was first mayor of Klein-Krotzenburg from 1970 to 1977 and then until 2001 first mayor of the municipality of Hainburg in the Hessian district of Offenbach .

Life

After the end of the Second World War, Wemelka came to Klein-Krotzenburg as a refugee from the Sudetenland , where he initially worked as a civilian employee for the armed forces of the United States in Hanau-Wolfgang for 24 years in the commercial sector. In 1964 he became honorary first alderman of the community of Klein-Krotzenburg, of which he was elected mayor in 1970. In the course of the territorial reform and the associated incorporation of Klein-Krotzenburg into the new large municipality of Hainburg in 1977, he became its first mayor. After four terms in office, he resigned his office in 1992, and until the end of 2001 he worked as head of the local court and arbitrator for over 30 years.

Wemelka was also a member of numerous associations and held various honorary positions , including being chairman of the board of the non-profit building cooperative Klein-Krotzenburg and honorary member of the Hainstadt volunteer fire brigade from 1972 until his death . Among other things, he was awarded the Dr. Johann Christian Eberle Medal in gold , the fire protection badge of the state of Hesse in gold , the Golden Fire Brigade Cross of Honor and in 1988 the Federal Cross of Merit and was appointed Honorary Mayor of Hainburg.
