from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Herboldshausen is a desolate place on today's western edge of the built-up urban area of Borken in the Schwalm-Eder district in Hesse , Germany .

Geographical location

The place was probably about 192 meters above sea level at the northern foot of a slight hill, the 222.6 m high Giesenbühl, in the area of today's indoor swimming pool on Westrandstrasse. The Olmes runs west of the desert . Today, Herboldshausen only has a hallway name.

history

The first documentary mention was in 1105 under the name "Herboldeshusun", and in 1106 a local nobleman of "Hereboldeshusen" is mentioned in a document from the Hersfeld Abbey . From 1372 Herboldshausen was called a village and belonged to the town and office of Borken. At this time the pastor of Borken, Johann von Schorpheim, had shares in Herboldshausen, which Landgrave Hermann II received in 1378. In 1408 Hermann II gave his share of Herboldshausen to those of Griffe . The next named owners of Herboldshausen were the lords of Löwenstein-Westerburg in 1504. The last mention of the village "Herboldeßhausenn" was in 1588.

On the engraving by Matthäus Merian in the Topographia Germaniae and there in the volume “Topographia Hassiae et Regionum Vicinarum” (1646) the tower can be seen very well in the right half of the picture.

The place gave its name to the city gate "Herboldhäuser Tor" (no longer existent today) in Borken on the street leading to Fritzlar . In the copper engraving by Matthäus Merian , the "Herboldshausen Gate" can be seen very well in the right half of the picture.
