Herdin Radtke

Herdin Radtke (born April 5, 1943 in Korsze (Korschen), East Prussia, now Poland ) is a German painter , painting teacher and singer.

Life

After the Second World War, the mother Erna Korsch-Radtke fled with her sons Bernd and Herdin from East Prussia to Westphalia, where she found her husband Klaus Radtke through the Red Cross. Herdin attended elementary school in Westphalia, sang in a children's choir and was passionate about drawing horses. He then attended grammar school in Porz / Cologne until 1960 and did an apprenticeship in mechanical engineering at Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz . At 17, Radtke bought a guitar with which he accompanied his vocal compositions; he drew and painted enthusiastically with watercolors. At the age of 18 he attended Nora Hengstenberg's private drama school in Düsseldorf and also worked as a car and coffee salesman, waiter, disc jockey and dock worker. On the weekends he played and sang with a band.

In the sixties he got to know the sculptor and painter Heinz Wilhelm Becker and visited him in his studio. Then Radtke devoted himself intensively to oil painting. He stayed afloat with various jobs.

In Munich, Herdin Radtke met the singer and songwriter Konstantin Wecker , who was at the beginning of his career. With singer and producer Fred Bertelmann , Radtke sang four songs based on music and text by Konstantin Wecker, a. a. My girl is a lady ... , you now live for a long time ... .

In 1972 Herdin Radtke went to Rome . There he was fascinated by the technology and art of the old masters. He painted up to fourteen hours a day in order to unlock the secrets of classic oil painting. In the evenings he sold his paintings in Piazza Navona to finance his studies.

In 1976 he moved to Pietrasanta in Tuscany and lived there until 1979 to study the flower and still life painting of the old Dutch and Flemish people.

From 1979 to 1982 he toured various cities in France, Holland and England. His main residence was in Cadaqués near Figueres in Spain, where he became a neighbor of Salvador Dalí and restored paintings for him. During this time he also studied the light in the paintings of William Turner . From then on that became the most important thing in his painting.

In 1983 Herdin Radtke went to Munich to realize his musical works. The long-playing record The Most Beautiful Songs from my East Prussian homeland was completed there in November 1983 and presented on November 30, 1983 in the representation of the Bavarian state government in Bonn and distributed by the company Teldec .

Afterwards Radtke devoted himself completely to painting and made study trips to Italy, Spain, France, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Senegal and Morocco. In 1990 he moved to France, where he created the pomponist movement of painting in the small town of St. Pompon in the Dordogne . From there, Radtke made various study trips to Morocco between 1993 and 1995. In 1996 his first “pomposing” exhibition took place in Bordeaux in the gallery of the renowned Mollat ​​bookstore.

In 1996 Herdin founded the "Atelier Pompon" in which he taught the basics of classic oil painting. He led masterclass courses in Corsica, Germany, Austria and France. In 1997 France 3, the third French television, aired a program on the philosophy of pomponism. Further television programs followed in 1998 and 1999.

In 2001 he opened another studio in Rocamadour (France). From 2005 Radtke created 11 new painting courses on DVD, which with the Atelier Herdin painting case represented a complete painting school in one case. In 2007 he started a 5-part DVD series How I paint a Dali in which he shows how Salvador Dali painted one of his most famous pictures, La persistence de la memoire (the picture with the folded clocks).

In 2008 Herdin's book The Magic of Oil Painting was published by Frechverlag. In 2009 the Atelier Herdin opened in Pézenas , southern France with a permanent exhibition of his pictures and the opportunity to learn the painting style in painting courses using the method he developed himself. Also in 2009 he opened the "Atelier Herdin" in Munich and worked on his second book Oil Painting Landscapes . In addition, a large retrospective with around 50 paintings took place in Brussels (Belgium) under the title From Flemish Painting to Pomponism .

In 2010 the book Oil Painting Landscapes was published by Frechverlag. In the same year the studio moved from Munich to Bad Salzschlirf . In 2014 and 2015 he held summer courses in painting at Hochosterwitz Castle in Carinthia.

From the year 2000 Herdin produced two painting courses on video: The basics of classic oil painting - still life. 4 videos with 8 hours of lessons and The Basics of Classic Oil Painting - Flowers. 4 videos with 7.5 hours of lessons. From 2010, Herdin produced further educational films on her own with the assistance of Gertrud Pietschmann (camera, design and photography). So far, his film program has included around 30 educational films for methodical learning of realistic oil painting and the "conducting" of light in images.
