Heribert Mally

Heribert Mally (born November 23, 1929 in Wießen , ČSR ; † February 24, 1995 in Zeuthen ) was a German police officer. He was major general and from 1971 to 1990 head of the traffic police in the Ministry of the Interior of the GDR (MdI).

Life

The son of a roofer was born in the Sudetenland and completed an apprenticeship as a roofer from 1946 to 1948 after his family moved to Schönebeck (Elbe) . In 1948 he joined the German People's Police (DVP) and began his service with the traffic police . From 1948 to 1951 he worked as a traffic supervisor, then as a clerk for vehicle registration in the traffic police department of the VP Presidium of Magdeburg . In 1949 he became a member of the Free German Youth (FDJ), in 1951 of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). After a course at the central school of the VK in Magdeburg, he went to Berlin and was deputy or head of a department in the main department VK in the MdI of the GDR from 1951 to 1965. He completed a distance learning from 1959 to 1961 at the engineering school Berlin-Wartenberg as an engineer for agricultural technology. From 1965 to 1971 he was deputy head of the main traffic police department (VK) in the Ministry of the Interior (MdI) with the rank of lieutenant colonel. From 1969 to 1971 he attended the DVP University in Berlin-Kaulsdorf, where he graduated as a state scientist. From 1970 to 1990 he was Vice President of the General German Motorsport Association (ADMV). In 1971 he was promoted to colonel and (successor to Alfred Heydel ) appointed head of the main traffic police department in the MdI. From 1972 to 1989 he was also head of the road safety working group in the Council for Mutual Economic Aid (Comecon). On June 20, 1977 he was appointed major general by Erich Honecker .

In September 1989, he was in the People's Republic of China to share experiences on road safety issues and met with State Commissioner and Public Safety Minister Wang Fang in Beijing. On February 1, 1990, he was retired and replaced by Colonel VP Rolf Lorenz.

Mally last lived in Zeuthen and was a member of the Initiative Group for the Protection of Social Rights (ISOR).
