Heribert Schmitz (theologian, 1932)

Prelate Heribert Schmitz (born January 15, 1932 in Warburg ; † August 12, 2013 ) was a Catholic theologian . From 1980 to 2007 he was cathedral capitular at Paderborn Cathedral .

Life

After studying theology in Paderborn, Münster and at the Pontifical Gregorian University , Heribert Schmitz was ordained a priest on October 10, 1959 in Rome . There he received his doctorate in dogmatics in 1964 . Back in his home diocese , he was initially employed as vicar in Erwitte from 1964 to 1966 and as sub-rain of the archbishop's seminary in Paderborn until 1971 . Its management ( Regens ) was entrusted to him by Archbishop Lorenz Cardinal Jaeger , which he exercised for just over two decades. At the same time he was responsible for training and accompanying the permanent deacons and as a pastor for the deaf in the Archdiocese of Paderborn until 2004 . From 1980 to 2007 he was a member of the Paderborn Metropolitan Chapter , in which he has been the cathedral dean at Paderborn Cathedral since 1990 . From 1993 to 2007 he was a real clergyman and head of liturgy in the Vicariate General. He has also made an outstanding contribution to the academic analysis of Liborius veneration in Europe.
