Hermann Beul (born August 10, 1878 in Bern , † April 9, 1918 in Einsiedeln ) was a Swiss decorative and art painter.

Life

Hermann Beul was born as the son of the painter Marius Beul (1849–1914) and his wife Fridoline Beul-Diethelm in Bern. First he attended primary school in Lachen , then, after the family moved, in Zurich, where he later also attended the arts and crafts school. He was trained by Hans Thoma in Berlin and at the Karlsruhe Art Academy . He later worked in his father's shop and completed his training as a decorative painter in 1907 with a study visit to Florence.

In 1915, Hermann Beul married Louise Treichler from Einsiedeln, where he also spent the rest of his life and built a reputation for himself as an esteemed church painter. Ailing all his life, Hermann Beul died at the age of 39 from complications from a kidney disease.

Hermann and Louise Beul's only child was the well-known song composer Artur Beul .

In addition to painting churches all over Switzerland, Hermann Beul also liked to work as a landscape painter, who depicted numerous areas of his hermit area and the Iberg high valley.

As a portrait painter, Beul mainly painted people from his immediate surroundings. Among others, he also portrayed his sisters Hedwig (1879–1961), Frieda (1888–1975) and Bertha Julia (1890–1965) as well as his future wife Louise Treichler.
