Hermann Christoph Gottfried Demme

Hermann Christoph Gottfried Demme (born September 7, 1760 in Mühlhausen / Thuringia , † December 26, 1822 in Altenburg ) was a German Protestant theologian and writer .

Demme studied theology and philology in Jena and then became sub-principal of the grammar school in Mühlhausen and in 1796 superintendent . In 1801 he was appointed general superintendent and consistorial councilor to Altenburg.

Demme wrote some books under the pseudonym Karl Stille and also edited the hymn books in Mühlhausen and Altenburg, in which he included some of his own songs, including the one that has also been included in several other collections. The calm is descending again on our earth. He also worked on the magazine for preachers , which was published by Josias Friedrich Löffler in Gotha .

His son Wilhelm Ludwig Demme was a well-known lawyer and writer.
