Hermann Erath

Hermann Erath (born January 11, 1945 in Singen ) is a German diplomat .

Studies and professional training

Erath began to study law in 1966, which he completed in 1972 with the 2nd state examination. He began his career in the foreign service in attaché training at the Foreign Office (1975–1977). His first stations were the embassies in Maputo in Mozambique and Pretoria in South Africa. From 1981 to 1984 he worked in the Department for Nuclear Disarmament in the Foreign Office in Bonn. From 1984 to 1987 he worked at the German Embassy in Kingston .

Activity as a diplomat

From 1987 to 1989 he was part of the permanent mission to the United Nations in New York . From 1989 to 1998 Erath worked again in the Foreign Office in Bonn. Erath became Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bangkok , Thailand in 1998 ; In 2001 he became ambassador to Caracas , Venezuela .

From 2006 to 2007 Erath was Consul General in São Paulo . From 2007 to 2012 he was Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rio de Janeiro .
