Hermann Frese

Hermann Frese (born March 26, 1843 in Bremen , † January 16, 1909 in Bremen) was a German politician, member of the Reichstag and member of the Bremen Senate .

biography

Frese was the son of a tobacco worker and tobacco broker. He attended commercial school in Bremen , became a tobacco dealer like his father and made a considerable fortune. The former Bremen hymn from 1870, set to music by Georg Kunoth , owes its text to Hermann Frese. In 1892 he was elected to represent the Bremen Chamber of Commerce . In 1893 he was set up for the Bremen Reich Association as a liberal politician for the Reichstag and elected a member of the Reichstag. He was able to exercise this mandate until 1903. In 1903 he was narrowly defeated by the SPD candidate Hinrich Schmalfeldt in the elections .

From 1903 to 1909 he was a senator in Bremen. As a senator, he was responsible for tax and finance matters. In 1903 he co-founded the Verkehrsverein of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and with Heinrich Wiegand , Franz Ernst Schütte , Rudolph Quidde , Heinrich Bömers and the Senators Karl Stadtländer , Dr. Marcus and Hermann Hildebrand are active on the board. From 1908 until his death in 1909 he was also chairman of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS).

The Villa Frese in Bremen - Schwachhausen , Schwachhauser Heerstraße 59, was built for him in 1897 according to plans by Eduard Gildemeister and Wilhelm Sunkel.

Honors

The Hermann-Frese-Straße in Bremen- Oberneuland was named after him.
