Hermann Henselmann, architect, born in 1905 is a documentary film of the DEFA studios for documentary films by Gunther Scholz from the year 1986 .

action

Gunther Scholz is shooting the film for the 80th birthday of the architect Hermann Henselmann . The shooting took place at a time when he was in the middle of moving to downtown Berlin. He knows that after a certain age you can no longer cope with the work in a small single-family house yourself. It is also clear to him that if one of the spouses dies, it becomes even more difficult for the remaining one. Living in the center of the city simplifies many things and makes life more pleasant.

Hermann Henselmann tells a lot and apparently uninhibitedly about his life, his beginnings, the buildings that were built, the projects that were not accepted, the honors and about friends, acquaintances and comrades of the party and government. Each of his utterances could be emphasized and reproduced as a quotation. For example, he tells the story of how he sits with Bertolt Brecht until the early hours of the morning and can learn a lot from him. Manfred Wekwerth describes him as Brecht's last Duz friend, which should also be true.

production

Hermann Henselmann, architect, born in 1905 , was shot by the artistic work group: defa kinobox as black and white film and partly on ORWO color. The first verifiable performance took place on March 13, 1986 in the series offers at the Babylon cinema in Berlin .

The texts are from Heinz Kahlau .

criticism

HU says in the Neue Zeit that it is impressive how Hermann Henselmann chatted away from the liver. He is completely carefree, subjective, as if the camera and microphone weren't there at all.
