Hermann Klotz (* 1845 in Inzing , Tyrol ; † July 26, 1899 there ) was an Austrian gynecologist.

Life

As the son of a surgeon, Klotz studied medicine at the University of Innsbruck . In 1865 he became active in the Corps Rhaetia . From the University of Vienna , he was in 1871 for Dr. med. PhD. After being a country doctor for a while, he returned to Vienna. In nine months as a secondary physician with Carl von Rokitansky in the Maria-Theresienhospital, his interest in gynecological diseases increased. He familiarized himself with the basics of surgery in three years with Theodor Billroth . At the same time, Johann von Mikulicz also learned from him . Disappointed in his Viennese hopes, Klotz returned to Innsbruck. There he completed his habilitation in 1881 on the pathology of the female sexual organs. Since he lacked full clinical training in obstetrics , he went to August Breisky as a volunteer at Charles University for several months at the end of 1881 . He successfully ran an operative private clinic in Innsbruck. In addition, he gave well-attended courses in surgical gynecology for nine years . Klotz remained unmarried and used a large part of his income to support members of his family. Appointed unpaid associate professor of gynecology in 1888, he received the venia legendi also for obstetrics in 1890 . A neurological disease left him impoverished and lonely. On the intercession of Billroth and Carl Nicoladoni , the Ministry of Education granted him a remuneration . Klotz died at the age of 54.
