Carl Nicoladoni (born April 23, 1847 in Vienna ; † December 4, 1902 there ) was an Austrian surgeon .

education and profession

Carl Nicoladoni studied medicine at the University of Vienna , graduated in 1870 as Dr. med. and in 1871 Dr. chir. From 1871 he worked as an aspirant at the General Hospital in Vienna , then under the surgeon Johann Freiherr Dumreicher von Österreicher (1815–1880) at the First Surgical University Clinic. As the latter's assistant, he qualified as a doctor in surgery in 1876 (courses on surgical and association theory , lectures on orthopedics ).

In 1880 Nicoladoni was supplent to Dumreichers and after his death in May 1881 he was appointed full professor at the University of Innsbruck , succeeding Eduard Albert (1841-1900), who was called to Vienna. For more than 14 years Nicoladoni worked under the modest conditions of the Innsbruck University Hospital. He was already working here according to the rules of Joseph Lister's antisepsis . A more modern new clinic was not opened until 1887. Appointed Hofrat in 1894 , Nicoladoni took over the ordinariate in Graz in 1895 , where he succeeded Anton Wölfler († 1917).

power

Nicoladoni was a successful surgeon. Erwin Payr was one of his students .

It dealt with the development of new surgical procedures (eg. As the first successful operation of a Ösophagusdivertikels ), the proposal of Gastro enterostomy (1881), the resection of the bowel with gangrenous hernia , the resection of the prolapsed rectum and suture technique for rectal resection. The operation named after him envisaged the first thumb replacement by multiple, pedunculated transplantation of the big or second toe or by rib grafts covered by abdominal skin . The horizontal gastro duodenostomy as well as work in the field of bone and joint diseases , the anatomy and mechanics of scoliosis as well as the suggestion and the implementation of tendon transplants were Nicoladoni's achievement. A total of 54 specialist articles appeared on his main topics.

Individual observations such as the formation of epithelium in sequestered stores, the testicular gangrene triggered by spermatic cord torsion (relationship to cryptorchidism , surgical suggestion ) and the observation of slowing of the pulse and increase in blood pressure during elastic compression of an arterial tendril aneurysm ( phlebarteriectasia ) on the extremity (1875) in a patient of the Viennese surgeon Clinic are his merit ( Nicoladoni- Israel - Branham-mark ).

The motor replacement operation was carried out by him in 1880 for a paralyzed M. triceps surae by transplanting both peroneal tendons and expanded.
