Hermann Knoll (born August 13, 1971 ) is an Austrian chess player . He carries the title International Master of FIDE and the Grand Master in correspondence chess .

In 2002 he finished second at the Austrian state championship in Oberpullendorf , half a point behind Nikolaus Stanec .

He plays team chess for the Upper Austrian club Union Ansfelden , with which he won the Austrian championship in the 2004/05 and 2006/2007 seasons . Hermann Knoll always played on the back board, while Zoltán Gyimesi played on the top board in Ansfelden . With Union Ansfelden he took part in the European Club Cup 2005 in Saint-Vincent, Italy.

He has held the title of International Master since June 2007. He achieved the required standards at the Austrian State Championship 2002, a grand master’s tournament in Ansfelden in September 2003 , in which he won against Wolfgang Uhlmann and Eva Moser , and at the 15th Vienna Open in August 2006, in which he defeated the Israeli Grand Master Leonid Gofshtein , among others . He achieved all three standards with overachievement. Its Elo rating is 2307 (as of September 2014), its highest to date was 2409 from October 2006 to March 2007.

Correspondence chess

Hermann Knoll has been playing correspondence chess since 1997. He received the title of International Correspondence Chess Master in 2003 and has been a Grandmaster since 2009. His correspondence chess rating is 2438 (Rating List 3/2012), his highest to date was 2643 in the second half of the Year 2005.
