Hermann Nebe

Friedrich Adolf Hermann Nebe (born March 2, 1877 in Halberstadt , † July 1, 1961 in Eisenach ) was a German writer and journalist .

Life

Hermann Nebe was born as the son of Halberstadt preacher Gustav Nebe . The family moved to Münster in 1883 , where Nebe attended high school. He studied in Halle , Leipzig and Kiel initially Jura , changes in 1909 in the Art History and then journalism and eventually became a writer and journalist. Hermann Nebe was married and had four children, including the artist Susanne Kandt-Horn .

Services

As a freelance writer, he began as an editor at the Eisenacher Tagespost in 1907 and became its editor in 1908. He held this position with interruptions until 1925 and wrote numerous articles on local history.

From 1925 he was keeper of the Wartburg . In 1927 he uncovered the dungeon in the south tower of the Wartburg and discovered the inscription of the Baptist Fritz Erbe . In his capacity as castle warden, he made a significant contribution to maintaining the basic substance of the castle during the turmoil of the Second World War . One of the highlights of his activity was the guided tour of the Wartburg for Pope Pius XII. on September 7, 1928.

From 1945 to 1952 he was President of the Wartburg Foundation and gained the reputation of a recognized homeland and castle researcher throughout Germany. When efforts began in 1947 to dissolve the Carl Alexander Library Foundation , Nebe tried to bring the books back to the Wartburg, which was finally achieved in 1958 under his successor Siegfried Asche. In 1947 Nebe received an honorary professorship.

Hermann Nebe was one of the founders of the Eisenach history association and was honorary president of the summer profit guild .
