Hermann Ritter (architect, 1851)
Hermann Ritter (born January 19, 1851 in Liestal ; † May 4, 1918 in Bern ) was a Swiss architect who lived and worked in Frankfurt am Main after completing his studies .
Life
Hermann Ritter attended the general trade school in Basel with Kinkelin and then studied at the Zurich Polytechnic with Gottfried Semper , Gullmann and Georg Lasius . After graduating with a diploma in August 1871, he first worked in Georg Lasius' architectural office in Zurich. In 1872 he moved to Frankfurt am Main . There he worked from 1873 to 1876 as a construction manager in the architectural office of Carl Jonas Mylius and Alfred Friedrich Bluntschli during the construction of the Frankfurter Hof hotel . In 1877 Ritter went on a study trip to Italy for almost a year before he became director of the construction company Philipp Holzmann & Cie. In 1878 . entered. There, together with G. Seestren-Pauly and A. Hänle, he was responsible for the company's structural engineering department. In 1895, Ritter took over management of the company as the successor to Philipp Holzmann. On March 29, 1914 he resigned from the management board and joined the advisory board of the GmbH as chairman and later on the supervisory board of the AG.
As an architect he was responsible for the construction of the Friedrichshof Palace in Kronberg im Taunus for the Empress Friedrich . He was the inventor of the perspectograph to transfer geometrical representations into perspective. In 1883 he had the perspective draftsman patented.
In 1903 Ritter was honored with the honorary title of a royal Prussian building councilor . In addition, he received numerous medals from different countries. In 1916 he moved to Bern, where he died.

His brother Wilhelm Ritter, who was four years older than him, was a civil engineer and professor at the Zurich Polytechnic.
Hermann Ritter married Amalie Diehl (1857–1890) for the first time in 1878. The marriage had four children:
- Luise Anna (1879–1971), married Luise Fester
- Max Friedrich (1880-1939)
- Emma (1882–1954), married Emma Holzmann
- Anna (1886–1890)
In 1892 he married Emma Günther (1859–1952) for the second time. From this marriage there were two children:
- Hermann Ritter (born September 27, 1893 - † February 1, 1962), architect
- Anna (1896–1976), married Schnebli-Ritter
The family grave in the main cemetery in Frankfurt contains the remains of his first wife Amalie Diehl and his daughter Anna. It is a listed building . The tomb was designed by Hermann Ritter in 1892 for his mother-in-law Eleonore Diehl (1826-1891) and his father-in-law JJ Diehl (1826-1895).
