Hermann Ritter (writer, 1864)

Hermann Friedrich Christian Philipp August Ritter (born March 18, 1864 in Cologne ; † October 28, 1925 there ) was a German writer .

Life

Hermann Ritter was born in 1866 as the son of the artillery sergeant Wilhelm Carl Ernst Ritter and his wife Emilie Louise Friederike Ritter, née Fresenius, in Cologne's Dominican Barracks (An den Dominikanern). Due to the early death of his mother, he spent childhood and adolescence in different places. a. in Laasphe , Koblenz , Montjoie and Stolberg . From 1880 he completed a teacher training in the teacher training college in Dillenburg . From 1883 on he worked as a primary school teacher in Mogendorf / Westerwald and from 1888 in Stolberg . On December 1, 1895, Ritter took up his last position as a school teacher in Hellenthal .

While he was still a teacher in Hellenthal, in 1898 Ritter was one of the winners of a competition for novels and sketches organized by the Kölnische Zeitung . As early as March 1, 1904, Ritter was finally retired because of a “nervous headache” or “nervous weakness”. On March 23, 1904, he left Hellenthal and moved to Trier . There he was editor of the German Rhine newspaper for two years before becoming editor of the Bergisch Gladbacher Volkszeitung . From 1908 on, Ritter could afford to concentrate exclusively on his journalistic work. He signed a contract with the Berlin publisher Friedrich Fontane and created several volumes for his Deutsche Erde series, including on the Jülich region and the Rhenish border area, and he was also a long-time employee of the Stadtanzeiger in Cologne. Ritter, who was known as a connoisseur of Rhenish wine according to an obituary, died of a stroke in 1925.

Hermann Ritter was the author of stories , travelogues and folklore works.

He was married to Hilde Ritter, nee Klauer. He is the grandfather of the politician and member of the state parliament Karl Hermann Ritter and great-grandfather of the writer Hermann Ritter .

At least three works or collections appeared as "printed matter" in different presentations. The first was the article "Zum Hessenland", published as a "printed matter" with "Greetings from the" Hessenland "in Cologne" (Bergisch Gladbach, undated). The article "Zum Hessenland" is available together with "The sold Kunibert" as a brochure "Kunibert the Fiese - patron saint of the" Ahle Griese "" including a reproduction of the picture (Cologne, no year). The second printed matter is “Kölsch Bier”, with illustrations. One edition contains only illustrations as accessories, the printing color is slightly reddish; the second is brown in color and contains two postcards with illustrations in the middle. Both were self-published by Hermann Ritter, Bergisch Gladbach, undated. They were intended to be mailed, the cover served as an envelope when closed.
