Hermann Saterdag (born January 21, 1945 in Weitmar ; † June 25, 2013 in Weinheim ) was a German educational researcher and long-time President of the University of Koblenz-Landau .

Life

Hermann Saterdag went to school in Weitmar, a district of Bochum . His father was employed in mining . He studied psychology at the University of Münster and at the beginning of his career he headed a research center for student advisory services at the Saarland University. After receiving his doctorate , Saterdag worked for several years at Infratest Wirtschaftsforschung and at the Institute for Employment Research in Nuremberg in the field of educational needs research. In 1979 he became a professor for applied social sciences and labor market policy in the labor administration department of the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Mannheim (today: University of the Federal Employment Agency ). From 1986 he headed the job placement / career counseling department there. In 1988 he became president of the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Education (EWH). Right from the start he campaigned for the college to be converted into a university. By law of the state government , the University of Koblenz-Landau was established on October 1, 1990. Saterdag was re-elected to office twice.

In his presidency until 2000 he was also active for the state government for various overarching university policy tasks, for example as a member of the university structure commission of the Rhineland-Palatinate minister for education, science and further education , as chairman of the board of trustees of Hochschul-Informations-System GmbH, as founding president of the German-French-Swiss cooperation association of teacher training universities on the Upper Rhine COLINGUA.

In the summer of 2000 he moved to the Federal University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in Mannheim, Department of Labor Administration, as President. In autumn 2001, Hermann Saterdag was appointed by the state government of Rhineland-Palatinate under Science Minister Jürgen Zöllner to the newly created office of government commissioner for the reform of teacher training; In this area of ​​responsibility, he also assumed the role of chairman of a commission of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs (KMK) from 2005, which develops the requirements for teacher training across national borders. He also represented the KMK at European level in this area. Hermann Saterdag was a member and chairman of the University Council of the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and a member of the University Council of the Karlsruhe University of Education .

Hermann Saterdag died in June 2013 after a long and serious illness. He was married and had two sons.
