Hermann Schürrer

Hermann Schürrer (also: Hermann Schürer ; born December 14, 1928 in Wolfsegg am Hausruck , Upper Austria ; † November 29, 1986 in Vienna ) was an Austrian writer , especially poet .

Life

Born in a mining village as the son of a steiger , Schürrer came to Vienna in 1951, where he studied law, history, English, psychology and German. During his studies, he was a member of the Olympia Vienna fraternity from 1952 to 1954 . After relegation from university, he worked as an employee of a graphic artist, performed henchman services and frequented coffee houses. In July 1970 he presented his project Europe is a rotten egg. I put my head in front of it in a Greek restaurant (“Hellas”) in Vienna.

Schürrer was punished several times for "insulting official honor and resisting state authority". When charged with “vagabondage”, the court called in a cultural critic, who stated that “Hermann Schürer could be considered one of Austria's most remarkable talents”, whereupon Schürrer was acquitted. He had spent a total of two years in prison and two years in a psychiatric institution before moving to West Berlin for two years .

In 1975, together with Gerhard Jaschke, he founded the avant-garde literary magazine Freibord and was a member of the Graz authors' assembly .

After his death he was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 40, number 131). His estate is in the Vienna Library .
