Hermann Schuessler
Hermann Schüssler (in USA Schussler ) (born August 4, 1842 in Rastede ; † April 27, 1919 in San Francisco ) was a German civil engineer who built many dams in the USA. He became known through the construction of water supply system for the mine in Comstock Lode .
Schüssler attended the Prussian Military Academy in Oldenburg (Oldenburg) from 1859 to 1862 . He then studied civil engineering in Zurich and Karlsruhe . In Karlsruhe he became a member of the Teutonia fraternity .
In 1864 Schüssler emigrated to California and began working for the San Francisco waterworks . He worked on several projects in the San Francisco Bay Area . Noteworthy are the construction of the Lower Crystal Springs dam and the dam on San Andreas Lake , both of which survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake without damage. Schüssler became the chief engineer of Marin County and later Virginia City . There he built the water supply system for the mine in Comstock Lode. He also built water supply systems in Tuscarora, Nevada and Pioche . Also worked on several projects in Hawaii . He retired in 1914.
