Hermann Schnee
Hermann Schnee (born September 5, 1840 in Treuenbrietzen , † February 24, 1926 in Berlin ) was a German landscape painter and graphic artist .
Life
Schnee was born as the son of District Court Councilor Rudolph Hermann Schnee (1805–1864) in Treuenbrietzen, Breite Straße 2. His mother, Louise Sello (1812–1845), was a sister of the court gardeners Hermann and Emil Sello and a sister-in-law of the court gardener Eduard II. Nietner and the architect Ludwig Persius .
As a schoolboy (around 1856), Schnee made a drawing of the tomb of Heinrich von Kleist for Theodor Storm , which is located on the Kleiner Wannsee . He was a student of Oswald Achenbach and Hans Fredrik Gude in Düsseldorf . In 1863 he went to Karlsruhe and after 1867 he opened a "ladies' studio" in Berlin. At the Great Berlin Art Exhibition , an annual art salon, he was represented with six paintings in 1895. Today his paintings can be found in the Chemnitz City Art Collections and in the Grunewald Hunting Lodge . Schnee lived and worked as a painter in Berlin and the Harz Mountains . In 1893 he was appointed royal professor by Kaiser Wilhelm II .
He was married to Charlotte Friederike Paulina (nee Maillard, * July 5, 1846, † January 15, 1920). His grave, that of his wife and father are in the Bornstedter Friedhof of the Hermann Selloschen Family Foundation.
