Hermann Gustaf Sumpf (born May 1, 1882 in Neckarau , † December 22, 1967 in Eisenach ) was a Hessian politician ( KPD ) and a former member of the Landtag of the People's State of Hesse in the Weimar Republic .

Life

Hermann Sumpf was the son of the sandmaker Gustav Sumpf and his wife Anna, née Päffler. He worked as an upholsterer and upholsterer in Bretzenheim and became chairman of the saddler and upholsterer association in Mainz . On January 4, 1913, Hermann Sumpf, who was of Protestant denomination, married Margaretha Kunigunde, née Ritzau (* 1884) , in Bubenhausen .

From 1914 he did military service , was injured and retired from service in 1916 100% war- injured .

Hermann Sumpf joined the SPD in 1902 and became a member of the USPD and later the KPD in 1917 . From 1921 he was chairman of the KPD Mainz and city councilor there. In 1923 he was elected to the district council. From 1926 he worked as a full-time party secretary in the Mainz sub-district. From 1927 to 1931 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament for the KPD. Since Marsh, a member of the district headquarters Hesse of the Communist Party and Chairman of the RFB was in Mainz, after the RFB ban in June 1929, his party colleagues Jacob Schaefer demonstratively went in the uniform of the RFB in the state legislature, he was for four days of meetings of the Plenary sessions excluded.

Persecution in the Soviet Union

Hermann Sumpf emigrated to the Soviet Union in 1932 , where he was recognized as a political emigrant in 1933. In 1934 he married Rosalie Eisemann (1881–1981), a housemaid and worker from Odessa , for the second time . From 1934 he was an employee of the International Red Aid , from 1936 he worked as a car upholsterer in Simferopol .

In 1937 he fell victim to the Stalinist purges : he was arrested and held in Gulag camps until 1941 . He was then taken to the Caucasus or Kazakhstan and later exiled to Siberia . In 1953 he was rehabilitated. From 1958 he lived in the GDR and received the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze there in 1962 .
