Hermann Theißen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hermann Theißen (born August 14, 1954 in Erkelenz ; died January 16, 2016 ) was a German journalist.

Theißen studied German, social sciences and theater studies in Cologne , worked as a freelance writer for newspapers and completed an internship at Deutschlandfunk . He then worked as a freelancer for the WDR in the history / contemporary history department and for school television. In July 1986 he became an editor for Political Feature and Political Literature on Deutschlandfunk. With his colleague Karin Beindorff , he designed the feature on Tuesday and, until 2008, the program “Political Literature”. As an editor for contemporary history and contemporary criticism (feature), Theißen was particularly committed to long radio formats: The feature is the most open journalistic form, sometimes close to the border with art. Nowhere else can you work and experiment with so many different stylistic devices.

Theißen directed co-productions by Deutschlandfunk with the Vienna Burgtheater and the Volksbühne Berlin ; he wrote for the Süddeutsche Zeitung , Die Zeit und Theater heute . With his co-authors Monika Borgmann and Lokman Slim, he made the documentary Massaker , an international co-production about the Sabra and Shatila massacres , which ran in the Panorama of the Berlinale and received international awards.
