IC 2217 is a galaxy of Hubble type S: the constellation Gemini on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 230 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light-years across.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 2490 , NGC 2492 , IC 485 , IC 2213 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on February 8, 1896 .
