IC 2233 is a faint barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBcd with extensive star formation areas in the constellation Lynx in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 25 million light years from the Milky Way and about 25,000 light years in diameter. The galaxy belongs to a group of extremely slender spirals, the diameter of which is at least ten times the thickness of its disk.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 2537 .

The object was discovered on March 25, 1894 by the astronomer Isaac Roberts and later listed by Johan Dreyer in his index catalog .
