Hermann Traugott Fritzsche (born February 13, 1809 ; † September 17, 1887 in Leipzig ) was a German businessman and owner of the Schimmel & Co. company .

Life

Hermann Traugott Fritzsche was initially the owner of his father's company Pezold & Fritzsche , which sold medicinal drugs and chemical products in Leipzig . On September 1, 1854, with the financial support of his friend Johann Erdmann Ferdinand Sechtling, he took over the company Schimmel & Co. , which he quickly expanded into a flourishing company with a worldwide sales network.

In 1871 his son Paul Traugott Fritzsche opened a branch in New York . In 1873, Hermann Traugott Fritzsche started producing essential oils . Recognizing that the manufacture of these products only promised success in close cooperation with scientific research, Fritzsche was the first in his branch to open an in-house industrial test laboratory in 1879 , which combined the production of natural essential oils with the production of artificial fragrances and aromatic substances . This made Fritzsche's company the world market leader in this up-and-coming branch of the economy .

For his services to the Saxon economy, Hermann Traugott Fritzsche was appointed secret councilor of commerce . After sixty years of professional activity, he retired in 1883. He was married to Henriette Luise Magnus (1820-1897). His sons Hermann Traugott and Ernst Traugott Fritzsche successfully continued the company.

After his death, Hermann Traugott Fritzsche was buried in the family grave at the New Johannisfriedhof in Leipzig. The successor in the company management was his eldest son.

Characteristic

The basic trait of his being was simplicity and modesty, and he has retained these qualities until the time when he was able to enjoy the rich fruits of his industry. He was not a dazzling representative of the business to the outside world, but an organizational talent and a master of the pen that few have seen. Far superior to many of his contemporaries in terms of knowledge and ability, he has always remained modest in the background and has looked down with lively displeasure at the nerdism, the addiction to quick profit, which has blossomed so profusely in the last decades of his activity.
