Hermann Traut

Hermann Traut (born March 1, 1866 in Altenkirchen (Westerwald) , † October 27, 1931 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German librarian and historian.

Life

Traut attended high schools in Limburg adL and Wiesbaden . He studied history and geography in Bonn and made the acquaintance of Carl Schaarschmidt, the director of the Bonn University Library, during his studies . Traut continued his studies in Berlin , where he met Friedrich Althoff .

In 1892 he received his doctorate and from 1893 he was a research assistant in the Frankfurt a. In 1901 he became a librarian there, ten years later he was given the title of professor. During his service time the library reading room was rearranged and new printed directories were published. From 1924 to 1927 he headed the city library as deputy director.

Traut published mainly on Frankfurt library matters and the history of Frankfurt. He was chairman and later honorary chairman of the Association for Geography and Statistics. Together with the ethnologist Bernhard Hagen , he organized the Sunda expedition of the Geography and Statistics Association.
