Hermann Weideli (born January 14, 1877 in Oberhofen (today the municipality of Lengwil ) near Kreuzlingen , † October 3, 1964 in Schiers ) was a Swiss architect .

life and work

Hermann Weideli was born as the son of master carpenter Jakob Weideli and his wife Barbara on January 14, 1877 in Oberhofen near Kreuzlingen ( Canton Thurgau , Switzerland ). Originally, he was supposed to join his father's company, but did an apprenticeship as a draftsman with Gustav Gull in Zurich from 1894 to 1898 .

Weideli began his first job with the architect Jakob Rehfuss and then worked at the Zurich building department. Then he moved to “ Pflegehard & Haefeli ” and worked in Hong Kong before he worked for Hermann Billing in Mannheim for a year in 1904 . In 1905, Weideli, who married Ida Mast in 1909, went into business for himself in two places with different partners: After winning the competition, the joint architecture office “ Bischoff and Weideli ” opened with Robert Bischoff (1876–1920) and he moved to Zurich. In the same year, Hermann Weideli and Eugen Kressibuch took over the Kreuzlingen office of the late architect Wilhelm Martin-Imhof (1842–1905) and continued it under the name “Weideli & Kressibuch” as an offshoot of the Zurich office. After Kressibuch's death in 1923, Weideli continued the Kreuzlingen architecture office with Karl Eberli as “Weideli & Eberli”.

After the early death of his business partner Robert Bischoff in 1920, Hermann Weideli took over the joint architecture office in Zurich. In 1943 he then merged with his son Hans Weideli. In addition to the construction of many schools, factories, business and private houses, Weidelis also focused on interior design. He was also involved with the Haefeli Moser Steiger architectural office in the prestigious construction of the Zurich Cantonal Hospital from 1943 to 1945. In 1951, Weideli's son Hans took over his father's office.

Hermann Weideli was a member of the Schweizer Heimatschutz (SHS) and was one of the first members of the Federation of Swiss Architects (BSA) when it was founded in 1908. He died on October 3rd, 1964 in Schiers ( Canton of Graubünden , Switzerland ).
