Hermann Ferdinand Eduard Johannes d'Artois von Bequignolles (born September 24, 1825 in Liegnitz , † December 22, 1867 in Wiesbaden ) was director of the court theater in Wiesbaden as well as a poet and dramaturge .

origin

Family coat of arms

Hermann was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Eduard d'Artois von Bequignolles (1793–1865) and his wife Hulda, born von Boyen (1805–1840). The blue shield of the family coat of arms shows a golden rafter, accompanied by three golden maces (morning stars; 2: 1).

Life

After his mother's death in 1840 he came to the Knight Academy in Legnica, enrolled at the University of Breslau and studied 1847/50 there law . Bequignolles made a trip through Italy. After completing his studies, he went to the court in Liegnitz as an auscultator and was already publishing poems and dramas during this time. In 1855 the joint management of the houses in Liegnitz and Görlitz became vacant. Bequignolles asked Carl von Holtei for advice, who advised against it. Nevertheless, Bequignolles decided to take the position. He put a lot of work, time and his own money into the stages. From 1857 he was able to concentrate on the Görlitz stage, where his modern program with operas, ballet and drama was very popular. His colleague Eduard Devrient was very impressed. He stayed in Görlitz until 1860, when his brother-in-law and director of the Breslau City Theater, Friedrich Schwemer (1818–1902), brought him to Breslau as a dramaturge. In 1864, however, the management changed, and Schwemer and Bequignolles left Breslau.

In June 1865 he received a call to the ducal Nassau court theater in Wiesbaden. After the German war he was appointed by the Prussians on September 6, 1866 as acting director and on October 7 as director. But he was already suffering from sugar dysentery , on December 13, 1867 he collapsed in the theater and died on December 21, 1867.

family

Bequignolles married the actress and singer Sophie Heindl, a daughter of the conductor Heindl from Amberg, on February 2, 1857 in Liegnitz. The marriage resulted in the writer and doctor Hermann Eduard (1857-1908), who married Marie Mex in 1893.
