Hermann von Dorne (* 1489 in the ore monastery of Bremen ; † August 14, 1559 in Lübeck ) was a German merchant and councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck.

Life

Hermann von Dorne was the son of Lüder von Dorne and his wife Margarethe Stratemann from Bremen. The grandfather Nicolaus lived in Dornum . Hermann von Dorne became a citizen of Lübeck in 1522 and was elected to the Lübeck council on September 21, 1535 after the end of the Wullenwever period . He is the progenitor of a number of Lübeck mayors of the von Dorne family in Lübeck. From 1548 to 1553 he was the treasurer. He represented the city from the Hanseatic Days in Lübeck from 1555 to August 1559.

Hermann von Dorne was married to Elsabe Wibbeking, a daughter of the Westphalian councilor Konrad Wibbeking from Lübeck . He bought the house at Mengstrasse 4 for the von Dorne family . His son Hermann von Dorne became a merchant, councilor and from 1579 Lübeck mayor .

Remarks

  1. Several secondary sources from the 19th century also name “Barmen in Westphalia” as the place of birth. This is doubtful as Barmen was a sparsely populated, loose court association in the 15th century. Even the mention of Westphalia does not really match Barmen (today a part of Wuppertal ), which in the 19th century belonged to the Rhineland as an independent municipality .
