Hermann von Leonhardi

Peter Carl Pius Gustav Hermann Freiherr von Leonhardi (born March 12, 1809 in Frankfurt am Main , † August 21, 1875 in Prague ) was a German philosopher and botanist . His botanical author abbreviation is “ Leonh. "

origin

He comes from the Frankfurt banking family Leonhardi . His parents were Karl von Leonhardi (* April 7, 1781; † February 18, 1864) and his wife Maria Anna Mülbens (* October 23, 1782; † April 26, 1825). His father had emigrated to Bohemia, where he bought the people of Platz (Straz) and Erdreichsthal.

Life

Leonhardi was a student and son-in-law of Karl Christian Friedrich Krause (1781-1832), whose handwritten estate he edited. With Heinrich Ahrens (1808–1874) and Karl David August Röder (1806–1879) he belonged to the inner circle of the Krauseschülsen. From 1842 Leonhardi was a private lecturer in Heidelberg, where Julián Sanz del Río (1814–1869) heard from him. In 1849 he took over a professorship for philosophy at the University of Prague . There he published the magazine Die Neue Zeit and organized philosophers' congresses. He was friends with Friedrich Froebel and worked closely with Bertha von Marenholtz-Bülow and Louise Otto-Peters . He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors .

In botany, Leonhardi mainly did algae studies, often together with the botanist Alexander Braun .

In addition, he was involved in the free religious movement ; he could not get his way with his ideas of social reformation.

family

He married Maria Sidonie Krause on October 19, 1841 (born August 14, 1810). She remained childless.
