Prince Hermann of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, Duke of Saxony

Hermann Bernhard Georg of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (born August 4, 1825 in Altenstein Castle ; † August 31, 1901 in Berchtesgaden ) was Prince of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach and Duke of Saxony as well as General of Württemberg .

Life

Hermann was a son of Duke Bernhard of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1792–1862) from his marriage to Ida (1794–1852), daughter of Duke Georg I of Saxe-Meiningen . He was a nephew of Queen Adelaide of Great Britain .

Hermann entered the Württemberg war school in 1840. He became major general and had been in command of the Royal Württemberg Equestrian Division since 1859. Hermann was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Alexander Newski Order , the Grand Cross of the House Order of the White Falcon , the St. Stephen's Order and the Grand Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . He is buried in the Pragfriedhof in Stuttgart.

Weimarstrasse in Stuttgart is named in honor of Hermann .

Hermann married Princess Auguste (1826–1898), the youngest daughter of King Wilhelm I of Württemberg , on June 17, 1851 in Friedrichshafen , with whom he had the following children:
