Hermen Rode (* around 1430 ; † 1504 ) was a German painter.

meaning

Rode was possibly the son of the goldsmith of the same name Hermen Rode from Lübeck , who was mentioned here in 1415 and 1420. He is documented as a painter of the late Middle Ages , especially of altars , for the period of life mentioned and was on a par with Bernt Notke in his time , also for the Hanseatic art export from Lübeck to the entire Baltic Sea region . There are several wills by Hermen Rode dated April 29, 1485, November 19, 1494 and February 14, 1500, but it is not possible to say with certainty whether they come from this painter. This had a brother Cort Rode. Another document shows that a painter Hermen Rode was married to a woman Gertrudt, who was probably the daughter of the Lübeck canon Alhard Spaen, who mentioned her in his will.
