The Heroal Group ( original spelling heroal ) with the parent company heroal - Johann Henkenjohann GmbH & Co. KG is a family company founded in 1874 and based in Verl ( Gütersloh district ) in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . Since 1989 the company has operated under the legal form of GmbH & Co. KG . Heroal is one of the leading suppliers of aluminum profile systems for roller shutters , roller doors , windows, doors and facades throughout Europe and is the world market leader for aluminum roller shutter slats. The portfolio also includes products for insect and sun protection as well as profile systems for carports , folding and sliding shutters.

According to the company, it employs more than 800 people at three locations. heroal produces at three locations (Plant I in Verl, Plant II and III in Hövelhof ) and is certified according to DIN EN ISO 9001 .

history

In 1874, Johann Henkenjohann went into business for himself with the manufacture of various wooden products. In 1950 his grandson Johann Henkenjohann took over the craft business . In 1966 the first roll-formed and foamed aluminum roller shutter slat was created. In 1971 heroal also began developing and selling aluminum profile systems for windows and later also for doors. In 1980 the first large powder coating plant for these products was inaugurated in Hövelhof, and from 1993 the product portfolio was expanded to include facade systems.

In 2000, the move to the current (as of February 2019) administration building in Verl took place and in 2011 Plant III in Hövelhof was opened, which functions as a warehouse and logistics center.

Heroal has also been active in the sun protection division since 2015.

Business figures

According to the Kleffmann Verlag, the company achieved sales of around 127 million euros in 2000. Heroal itself does not publish any sales figures.

Locations and production

The products are manufactured exclusively in Germany, using machinery that has largely been developed in-house. Heroal maintains its own inspection and test center, certified by the Institut für Fenstertechnik eV (ift), in which the products are tested according to German, European and international standards and technical specifications.

Plant I in Verl covers a production area of ​​approx. 35,000 m² and is the seat of the administration, the roller shutter and roller shutter slat production as well as the strip and sheet metal forming and the plastic injection molding production. Other local areas are toolmaking, connector production, special machine construction, testing centers and high-bay and small parts warehouses.

Plant II in Hövelhof has a production area of ​​around 49,000 m². There are a total of three painting systems, including a vertical coating system (different surface finishes, highly weather-resistant (hwr) coating). Plant II also includes a bending department (forming tasks such as round, branch and basket bends or circular elements for window and door profiles), a sheet metal edging department, an insulation department, a packaging area and a warehouse.

Plant III in Hövelhof is a storage and logistics center with an area of ​​approx. 40,000 m². The plant also has a model house. Heroal operates its own fleet of around 80 truck units to supply the German and European customer base.

Sustainability strategy

Heroal is a member of the recycling initiative "Aluminum and the environment in window and facade construction". Part of the sustainability strategy is the development of alternative, environmentally friendly technologies and materials. An example of this is an insulating bar that u. a. is used in the “W 72” window system, which won the “Architecture Innovation Award 2012” in the “Window Door Facade” category. It consists of 62 percent renewable raw materials and uses sebacic acid as a basis , which is obtained from castor oil . In addition, Heroal uses its own combined heat and power plant for the energy and heat required for production.

Products

The company develops, produces and sells aluminum profile systems for windows, doors and facades, roller shutters and roller doors for industry, business and the private sector. Other product groups include products for insect and sun protection as well as profile systems for carports, folding and sliding shutters. Heroal has developed a profile composite as the basis for energy-efficient windows. The insulation zone of these profiles has a modular structure, whereby insulation values ​​up to a level suitable for passive houses can be achieved.
