Herald Georg Wilhelm Johannes Schweickerdt (born November 29, 1903 in Schmie , Baden-Württemberg , † February 21, 1977 in Pretoria ) was a South African botanist of German descent.

Live and act

He came to the Cape Colony with his parents as a child in 1904 . He then studied in South Africa and Bonn and was then professor of botany in Pretoria. From 1940 to 1964 he was also the inspector of the Old Botanical Garden at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . Its author's abbreviation is " Schweick. "

His specialty in the Agrostologie was the family of the sweet grasses .
