The Heron Tower (also known as 110 Bishopsgate ) is a skyscraper in London . With a height of 202 meters (including mast 230 meters) it is the fourth tallest building in London after The Shard , One Canada Square and 122 Leadenhall Street and the tallest building in the City of London . Construction of the high-rise began in 2008 and was completed in early 2011.
The client Heron International initially planned a high-rise building with a height of 183 meters. After the plans by the architects Kohn Pedersen Fox were presented , however, resistance arose from the population, as the tower would come very close to St Paul's Cathedral when viewed from Waterloo Bridge . A public investigation under the direction of the Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott finally decided in favor of the client, in July 2002 the construction plans were approved.
In 2005, Heron International presented revised plans for the high-rise, which provided heights of 202 and 230 meters respectively. In January 2006, the new plans were approved by the City of London Corporation . Construction began in April 2008.
Aquarium
The concierge-style entrance and reception area contains a 70,000 liter aquarium with around 1,200 fish. The aquarium is the largest privately owned specimen in the UK and contains over 60 species of fish in a fully sustainable ecosystem. The species have been selected by experienced biologists and animal curators to ensure compatibility and adaptability to the environment. The tank is looked after by a team of two full-time fish attendants who feed the fish with a diet rich in natural ingredients as required and monitor the tank for water chemistry and fish health, as well as two to three part-time divers who regularly clean the decoration and glass .
