Mistress is a city in Illinois with 11,298 inhabitants (as of 2000). It is located 137 km southeast of St. Louis , 19 km northeast of Carbondale and 12 km from Marion within the metropolitan area and belongs to Williamson County .

history

At the beginning of the 19th century, Herrin was on Lusks Ferry Road, a then important road as a supply link that connected the Ohio River with Fort Kaskaskia . The city gained notoriety in 1922 when a total of 3 company executives and 19 strike breakers were killed in a mine workers' strike.

Internationally known is the annual five-day Herrinfesta Italiana , which is held in honor of the first settlers from Italy and in which successful artists such as Survivor , Dixie Chicks , Night Ranger , Josh Gracin and Blue Öyster Cult took part.
