Herrmann Herring
Herrmann Conrad Wilhelm Hering (born November 5, 1800 in Büche , Saatzig district , † February 1, 1886 in Stettin ) was a German high school teacher , historian and entomologist. He researched and published on the history of Pomerania and worked as an entomologist .
Life
Born as the son of a Protestant clergyman ("preacher") in Büche in the Saatzig district , he attended the Gröning Gymnasium in Stargard and studied theology, philology and history at the University of Halle from 1819 .
In 1822 Hering came to the royal and city high school in Szczecin , where he worked until his retirement in 1876. He attended the seminar until 1825 and was also an assistant teacher, became a full teacher in 1826, received the title of professor ( grammar school professor ) in 1838 and finally moved up to the first senior teacher position in 1869. He taught history, Latin and German. From 1828 to 1840 he was also a Baccalaureus of the Jageteufel College , in which students of the grammar school could live.
Hering took an active part in the social and scientific life of Szczecin. He got involved in the Szczecin Horticultural Association , of which he became honorary president, and worked as a Freemason in the St. John's Lodge to the three circles .
He did research on the history of Pomerania and published in the journal Baltic Studies , which he helped to bring about in 1832. Until 1874 he was responsible for the collections of the Society for Pomeranian History and Archeology .
Hering also worked as an entomologist . In 1837 he was one of the co-founders of the Entomological Association in Stettin , the first entomological association in Germany, and published several articles about butterflies in the Stettiner Entomologische Zeitung .
Hering was awarded the Red Eagle Order IV class and the Royal Crown Order III. Class excellent. The University of Greifswald received his doctorate in 1875. phil. hc
