The Roman Catholic Sacred Heart Chapel is located in the Höflas district of the Upper Palatinate municipality of Vorbach in the Neustadt an der Waldnaab district and belongs to the parish of St. Johannes Evangelist Vorbach .

history

On the initiative of the mayor of Höflas Hans Huebner, a chapel building association was founded in 1987; Due to his services, Hübner later became honorary chairman of the Höflas chapel building association. On August 1, 1987, Eduard Raps, the first chairman of the association, presented five chapel designs to the general assembly. From a draft, architect Zimmermann from Speichersdorf created a plan that could be presented. The first groundbreaking for the building took place on April 15, 1988, the foundation stone was laid three months later by the parish administrator Eberhard Gottsmann from Schlammersdorf. The individual trades were made by local craftsmen (roof construction by Josef Wiesnet from Ernstfeld , slate covering of the tower by Johann Kraus, cladding of the tower top by Oswald Perl from Schlammersdorf, tower cross by Alois Schusser). The consecration of the chapel took place on June 9, 1991; it was made by cathedral dean Edmund Stauffer and the prelate of the Speinshart monastery , Father Hermann Wolf.

The chapel building association is still active and organizes z. B. Consecrations for the church and tries to expand the chapel.

Construction

The chapel is 10 m long, 6 m wide and 5 m high. It has a retracted choir , the corners are bevelled in the choir and in the community room. A roof turret with a pointed tower and a golden cross is attached to the choir . The old local bell from 1924 hangs in the roof turret.

Interior

The chapel has a wooden ceiling with which the sloping corners of the choir and the community room are also clad.

On the wall above the altar is a large Greek cross with four arms of equal length made of copper tubing, at the ends the cardinal virtues (valor, temperance, justice, prudence) are depicted in the form of plates embossed in copper, in the center of the cross is a Glass heart with a crown of thorns attached. This cross was designed by Eduard Raps and made by Wolfgang Meier from Bayreuth . The ambo also consists of copper pipes and was made by Johann Hagn from Weiden ; on the front are the three emblems "cross", "anchor" ( signs of life of the Coptic Christians ) and "two fish" (signs of hope and of Jesus Christ ) and above them an eagle as a symbol for the evangelist John and a lion for the evangelist Mark attached, on the right side is a bull as a symbol for the evangelist Luke and on the left side an angel as a symbol for the evangelist Matthew . The Easter chandelier was made from copper tubing by Alois Schusser. In the middle there is an anchor cross with the letters IC XC NIKA (Eng. Jesus Christ wins ). The Eucharistic symbols fish and bread can be seen on the altar .

The two side figures represent Mary with the child and the evangelist Johannes . They were carved according to old models by Josef Reichl from Speichersdorf . The Way of the Cross was also designed and made by Eduard Raps.

Ludwig Höller made the six glass windows from Eschenbach ; they were set in frames made by Oswald Biersack. They symbolize the stages of creation from Genesis : creation of light, the sky, land and water, the heavenly bodies, sea animals and birds as well as land animals and humans.

In summary, the chapel is honored as follows:

Seen from the outside, the village chapel of Höflas is plain and simple. The interior, however, impresses with its stylistic uniformity and a theological program with rich symbolism that focuses on Christ. "
