The Herz-Jesu-Krankenhaus Münster-Hiltrup is a hospital in the Hiltrup district of the Westphalian city of Münster . It is carried by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus . The hospital has 426 beds and treats around 12,500 inpatients and around 27,000 outpatients annually. In addition, it fulfills a function as an academic teaching hospital for the Westphalian Wilhelms University .

history

While the history of today's hospital began in the turmoil of the Second World War , its origins can be traced back to 1920. In that year the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Hiltrup and Amelsbüren started outpatient nursing . Only a short time later, the nuns' home was expanded into a small hospital. It was equipped with hospital rooms for ten to twelve patients, a treatment room and a small therapy room .

After the outbreak of World War II, the district of Münster moved the hospital because it did not offer any protection from Allied air raids due to the lack of an air raid shelter. The hospital was relocated to the mother house of the nuns on Hammer Strasse , today's Westfalenstrasse , who made the entire first floor of their monastery available for this purpose. The first patients were admitted here in 1941. As an additional facility, the missionary sisters created a welfare office for illegitimate children and their mothers in 1942. Since the surrounding children's homes were badly affected by the impact of bombs, the hospital also took in children, the number of whom rose to over 100 by the end of the war.

After the Raphaelsklinik, which was temporarily relocated to Hiltrup due to war damage, was moved back to Münster on April 1, 1950, according to the will of the Münster district, the facility, which was previously run as an affiliated hospital, was to be converted into a specialist hospital. Accordingly, the opening of the specialist hospital took place on May 15, 1950. It initially consisted of the four specialist departments

Surgery , internal medicine , ophthalmology and ear, nose and throat medicine.

Soon the premises were no longer sufficient, so that the first expansions and renovations had to begin as early as 1953. In the years from 1959 to 1970, two ward houses, a staff dormitory, a new all-purpose building, a treatment wing and a hospital chapel followed. The building work suffered a setback due to a fire in 1969, which caused the attic of the old building to be renewed. Further construction work followed in the mid-1980s, when the nursing school received a new building in 1983/84 and a wash house was built in 1985. The hospital was also expanded in the 1990s, as was the entrance area, which was redesigned between 1989 and 1991, including the access to the prone and the emergency room . At the same time, bed block I was provided with a wet cell line, which was to be expanded again between 1994 and 1998. In the next two years, the last expansion took place, in which the treatment wing was provided with new operating rooms and the dialysis ward was expanded at the same time .

Current situation

In 2007, the practice clinic , which is attached to the hospital, opened with practices of attending doctors for outpatient treatment as well as the supply of medical material, for example from providers of orthopedic technology . At the same time, a stroke unit for the emergency treatment of strokes and a palliative ward was set up .

Departments

In addition to the medical departments, there is a social service at the Sacred Heart Hospital . A pastoral care service is available for the mental aspects. In addition, the so-called Green Ladies organize a regular patient visit service.

In addition, there is a voluntarily operated hospital radio in the building: The Studiowelle Hiltrup (eV) has been broadcasting its own radio program for patients and employees that can be received inside the building on a regular basis since 1970.
