The Church of the Heart of Jesus is the Catholic church in Völpke , a municipality in the Börde district in Saxony-Anhalt . It belongs to the parish " St. Marien " with seat in Oschersleben , in the deanery Egeln of the diocese of Magdeburg . The church named after the Sacred Heart of Jesus is located at Rudolf-Breitscheid-Straße 52 (corner of Bahnhofstraße).

history

In the 16th century, the population in the Völpke area became Evangelical-Lutheran with the introduction of the Reformation .

With the population increase triggered by industrialization in the 19th century, Catholics also settled in Völpke again. In addition to mining in the Helmstedt lignite district , the briquette factory “Fürst Bismark” founded in 1898 and the montan wax factory built in 1900 offered work opportunities. The station, which went into operation in 1872, also contributed to the economic development in Völpke.

In 1905 the foundation stone was laid and the Herz-Jesu-Kirche was built and inaugurated on December 8th. Around 1910 the later auxiliary bishop Augustinus Philipp Baumann was parish vicar in Völpke, from 1917 to 1930 the pastor Gustav Vogt , who later died in the Dachau concentration camp, worked as parish vicar in Völpke. As a result of the Second World War , the number of Catholics in Völpke increased due to the influx of displaced persons from the eastern regions of the German Empire .

The church has had no resident priest since 1989 .
