The church Heart of Mary is the Catholic Church in Langelsheim , a town in the district of Goslar in Lower Saxony . It is a branch church of the parish of St. Mary of the Annunciation with its seat in Liebenburg , in the Deanery Goslar-Salzgitter of the Diocese of Hildesheim . The church is named after the Immaculate Heart of Mary and is located on the Bruchkamp 9 property .

history

With the introduction of the Reformation , the population and the church of Langelsheim became Evangelical-Lutheran . After France declared war on Germany as a result of the German invasion of Poland on September 3, 1939 and an offensive against the Saar area began two days later , Saarlanders, most of whom were Catholic, were evacuated into the interior of the Reich. As a result, Catholic services were held again in Langelsheim around 1940.

After the flight and expulsion of Germans from Central and Eastern Europe , Catholic refugees and displaced persons also settled in Langelsheim , a Catholic parish was formed. Your first priest was Pastor Westphal from 1947 to 1958. The services initially took place in changing profane rooms. The Protestant St. Andrew's Church could also be used at times on special festive days .

After the currency reform of 1948 , the Catholics began building the church in 1950. Since then, the church has also belonged to the parish of St. Mary of the Annunciation in Liebenburg, and the Langelsheim Curate was dissolved. On March 15, 2009 the church building and support association Herz Mariä Langelsheim e. V. founded to support the maintenance of the church and the activities of the parish.

The church was built according to plans by the architect Bernhard Lippsmeier from Paderborn , made of lightweight stone and wood, and is located almost 196 meters above sea level . There are two bells hanging in its tower , opposite the main entrance is a hall cross . Its interior is closed off by a wooden ceiling and seats 166. The ambo , altar and baptismal font are also made of wood. Today's altarpiece, created by Gerd Winner , has been in the church since 1984. Above the sacristy door are depictions of Saint Dorothea von Montau and Hedwig von Andechs as well as the Blessed Jutta von Sangerhausen , made in 1957 by the painter Heribert Reul (1911–2008) from Kevelaer . 14 stations of the cross hang on the side walls . The interior also includes a statue of the Virgin Mary, in front of which sacrificial candles can be placed. The confessional is located under the organ gallery, on which there is an electronic instrument .
