The Herzsee is located in the southeast low mountain range at the foot of the Patscherkofel, southeast above the center of Aldrans in Tyrol ( Austria ), and is a fish pond from the early modern era.

Geography and hydrography

The pond is located in a wooded area. It is 200 m long and 40 m wide. The settlement at the west end is also called Herzsee .

At the lake, the circular hiking trail leads through the natural heart valley to Ampass and to Sistrans as well as to Judenstein . At the back of the pond is a snack station. Above in the forest is the Maria im Wald memorial , a group of picture trees.

history

Since the end of the 15th century, the lake has been referred to as “pond or lake to Laibains” in the princely fisheries descriptions, the name referring to the so-called ridge between Aldrans and the Herztal. The lake was probably drained from the 18th century. In 1892 the Innsbruck citizen Bederlunger bought it and let water in again. The lake got its new name from the heart valley through which it flows.

The pond used to be open for swimming and is now mainly used for fish rearing.
