History and sights
The elevated road running through Judenstein was of great economic importance for the entire district. Many merchants avoided the route through the Inn Valley up to the Brenner , in order to avoid tolls. The alternative route led from Volders over the Kolbenturm near Volderwald, on to Gasteig, Judenstein and the Triendl settlement and finally led to the Roman road Via Raetia . On this important transit route, above all numerous accommodation establishments, but also pre-tensioning stations for the maintenance of the carts passing through.
Hochstraße also plays an important role in the anti-Semitic ritual murder legend by Anderl von Rinn . The child's murderers are said to have traveled this route from the north to the south. The pilgrimage church of the same name was built right next to the historical trade route on the Judenstein. This church also contributed significantly to the economic success of Judenstein. A hotel, a kiosk and a campsite were built in the immediate vicinity of the church. In 1994 the cult of Bishop Reinhold Stecher was officially forbidden, the church was renamed "Mariä Visitation" and the pilgrimage was canceled.
Tyrol International School
Judenstein was most recently in the media due to the planned construction of an international school and boarding school with 400 places and the associated protests by the local population. The critics particularly criticized the planned dimensions of the facility and the impending loss of the Judensteiner Wald recreation area .
At the beginning of April 2014, the project developers at TIS Development GmbH announced in a broadcast that they would propose to the school and boarding school operator Nobel Education Network that they no longer pursue the project at the Judenstein site.
