Hessen dances
Hessen tanzt is the world's largest amateur dance tournament , which takes place annually in May in Frankfurt am Main . The event was first organized in 1974 as a dance weekend for mass sports. The organizer is the Hessian Dance Sports Association (HTV) in the German Dance Sports Association , the venues are the Frankfurt ice rink and the factory sports hall .
Participants and organizers
"Hessen tanzt" was initially a national dance sport tournament, but in 1998 it was also opened to international participants. More than 7000 dancers from all German federal states and increasingly also from abroad take part in the tournaments. Around 180 judges and another 200 employees in the tournament management help to organize "Hessen tanzt". The Hessian Dance Sport Association (HTV) has been organizing the event for over 30 years with around 330 clubs and dance sport departments (as of 2011). Admission is free for spectators.
Tournaments
The tournaments are held simultaneously: In the parquet-lined ice rink, the tournaments take place on up to eight dance floors and in the factory sports hall on four dance floors. Tournaments are offered in both standard and Latin American dances in almost all age groups. In 2011 a total of 68 tournaments were held, from the entry-level children's class "Children I / II D" to eight ranking tournaments.
